Georgia on my Mind

OK, so we've been in Georgia for a week now. Sorry I didn't post sooner. We arrived last week in Palmetto, Georgia. Jim's offerd choices by the commpany after finishing the job in Tennessee was the Indianapolis area or here in Georgia. I am so very glad that he chose not to go to Indiana. Did you see all the snow up there? No, it's not as bad as Oswego, NY - but it's bad enough that we would have been freezing in a Motor Coach!

It did snow about 2 inches before we left Tennessee. It was gorgeous, but freezing. It was the first time the dog had ever seen snow. We took her out in it, and she just stood there when she got her feet in the snow and looked at us like "Mom! Dad! What is this? Feels like water but it looked like cotton." It was really funny to see the expression on her face. When we got here to Georgia, we took her to the groomer and sad to say, she had to be shaved. So, right now she no longer looks like Falcor in the movie 'Never Ending Story.' It will grow back. In the meantime, the poor thing is shivering in this cold winter weather we've been having, so we bought her a little quilted coat with a fur collar. She sure seems to like having it put on before she goes outside into the 30 degree and lower temperatures. I thought she'd hate it. I was wrong.

Jim is learning how to use a PDA on the Georgia job. Being in an Atlanta suburb (SW), the gas company, of course is AGL (Atlanta Gas Light). they use a PDA instead of handwritten paperwork. Jim now has no choice but to join the rest of us in the world of computers, as much as he may not want to do so. He's a fast learner, so it shouldn't be all that difficult for him. The most difficult part is seeing the screen. They use that chincy zire 21 that is only gray tones, the screen is too small and difficult to see, and the stupid things crash on a regular basis. The reviews on them are horrible.

Jim brought me chocolate I don't need, 2 cards, and a dozen roses for Valentine's Day. WOW!!! I didn't do much for him..... I made him his favorite - brownies, and he also got two cards. It was a very nice evening and we had supper at Ruby Tuesday's in Peachtree City. We're only about 10 miles from there.

There's an RV show this weekend in the Norcross area at the NorthAtlanta Trade Center. With all the racing going on in Daytona this weekend, I don't know if we'll get to go to the RV show or not.

We are staying at South Oaks MHC (manufactured home community) and RV Park in Palmetto. It's not really a manufactured home community. It's a mobile home park. However, FINALLY, we have a site that has some decent yard and grass! We are on a concrete slab. The power and water is good, and even if it rains we don't drag in a bunch of Georgia clay mud! Hallelujah!

Yesterday morning, I was sitting outside having my morning coffee. It was peaceful, though not quiet because I85 runs alongside the park. Behind us are two fifth wheels, and we are all under a canopy of pine trees. I was looking around at nothing in particular, when in a tree about 100 yards away above one of the 5th wheels I spotted a red-headed woodpecker. They're pretty shy and you don't see them that close that often. He was a BIG one! I'd guess him at about 10-13 inches (not counting the tail feathers). Of course, there I sat, coffee in hand and no binoculars, no camera with long lens and no tripod. DRAT! I would love to have had a picture of that big boy. I'm hoping, that as the weather gets a little more suitable for sitting outside, (today's high is only going to be around 40) that I'll have another chance at him. The binoculars are out there. If it warms up a little in the next few weeks, I'll drag the camera, lenses and tripod out there too.

Alright, enough for now. Go Shop!
