Quiet Christmas and a driving New Year...

Well, Jim took vacation time for two weeks so we could go to Florida, see the Doctors, and visit with some friends.

We didn't get to see anywhere near all the people we wanted to see, and we can't seem to locate the youngest son. He moved last year and his phone doesn't work. He never gave us his new address and hasn't called to tell us his new phone number. What a bummer! That means we missed out on seeing those two grandchildren. Kids! Why is it they don't keep you updated on addresses and phone numbers!?

Christmas turned out to be fairly quiet. I got Jim the 3 music CDs he wanted and he got me the "merry glo round" light box I wanted. It's positively awesome! I can lock it down or I can unlock it and spin my work as I do it. It's also bright enough to shine through even Stampin' Up card stock! Now I can really make some nifty greeting cards - different from the ones I've made in past years.

While we were in FL. we had to replace the four coach batteries. Thankfully, we're able to get them at cost. I don't think I would have wanted to pay retail after seeing what cost is these days. The old ones were starting to bulge, so it was only a matter of time, and since we were where we could get the best possible price, why not go on and do it?

I made a big ham, sweet potatoes, fresh bread, and all the fixin's for Christmas dinner, topped off by my freshly made cream puffs, apple pie, and fudge. Some friends we hadn't seen in more than 2 years had dinner with us at the Peace River Thousand Trails Park, and then the next day we threw everyone's leftovers from 4 or 5 of us together and had another big dinner. Marc and Sharon are from Louisiana, he loves to cook, and so you can imagine the setup he has! Men and their toys, you know. :::smile::: Women aren't quite as into the toys for whatever they enjoy doing as men seem to be.

Two days after Christmas, we headed off to the Orlando Thousand Trails Park and New Year's day. We brought it in as quietly as we could. Neither of us are party people. We did get to see another (non rv'ing) friend while we were there that we haven't seen since the first summer we started RV'ing. We went out to dinner, and then they came to visit and see our "home" that they'd not yet seen. Jim was, of course, more than pleased to show off his home. He always is more than willing to show the world all the changes we've made with all of our remodeling antics, or should I say HIS remodeling of the coach.

New Years' morning and we were off and running to get to the main office in Norcross for Jim's job. Norcross, Georgia isn't that far, but we wound up getting waylaid for 2 hours at the Flying J in Lake Park, Georgia. the fuel lines were very long and we were starving. I've never seen so many RV's headed to Florida at one time. I'm sure they were all shouting at us across the freeway that we were going in the wrong direction!

We finally arrived in Norcross after much fighting of wind and "dropping as we drove," temperatures. By dark, we had the necessities hooked up and the satellite set up. What a BONE CHILLING night it turned out to be! This morning, the water line is frozen, and so is the black and gray water drain hose! I had to run hot water through the washer to get the drain line for gray water flowing again. Thank the heavens above that the furnace has a vent that drops into the bays where the holding tanks are located to keep them from freezing. We awoke to 18°, it is nearly 2PM now and still only up to 30°. It's not supposed to get this cold here! There was even snow in the Atlanta metropolitan area overnight! It's getting cold in Fl. too. I don't suppose I can really complain about this since it will only last a few days, and to me it's a lot better than 100°. I can put on enough clothes to keep warm, but there are times that you just can't get cooled off no matter how much you disrobe.

We don't know yet where Jim's next assignment will be. He's at the main office doing some training on the PDA. We're hoping they'll send him someplace where the gas company isn't AGL. (Atlanta Gas Light) I suppose we'll know for sure by Friday and then be on our way. I'll post an update here (not a new post) when we do know.

UPDATE! January 4th
We are now in Gladewater, Texas. We got sent out of Norcross yesterday about 3PM. We made it to just south of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and spent the night in a rest area, waking to a ccccold 22° this morning and headed out. We have settled in for tonight in an RV park. Gotta get that laundry caught up and be able to see some television. We are headed for Santa Roas, California!!!! OH NO! Have you seen the weather reports out there? Horrendous, record-breaking storms! We may have to stop in Arizona and hang out for a little while til things settle down and we can get up the coast. I refuse to endanger myself, Jim or our home and belongings for a stupid job. If the company doesn't like that, that's just going to be too bad! I'll post a new posting in a few days.

I guess that's about it for now. So, until next post, let's take some of that Christmas money you got and go shopping!!!
