IT was a crazy, fun, weekend here. Jim and I have been e-mailing with another couple for nearly a year now. I had run across Rick Hammersley's blog last summer when I was looking around the Internet for Southern Cross info. Jim wanted to go to Virginia or Ohio to work for them and so I was sort of poking around with Google when I came upon Rick's blog at Rick Walks America. Both guys worked for Southern Cross at the time, so I fired off an e-mail to them because at the moment they were working in Roanoke, Va. We really wanted to go there. (we didn't get to) We had a very ill, very dear friend that lived in that area and we really wanted to get closer to them so we could help if they needed us.
Anyway, Rick was getting things together for a walk he was going to start this past April 1st. He was planning to walk from Bodega Bay, Ca. to Coney Island, NY. He was due to arrive in California while we were there, but we got sent off to Colorado before they got there.
Rick started his walk as scheduled, and this past Friday he and wife Valda, arrived in Fort Collins. The Lakeside KOA here gave them a couple of nights of camping and parked them right behind us. We were thrilled to finally have an IRL meeting with them. They're good folks and I hope you'll all visit his site and make a donation or sign up to match the money he finds on the ground as he walks. Keep an eye on him as he walks - I just KNOW he's going to make it all the way! All donations are going to Gateway for Cancer Research. It's a very worthy cause. You can read more and get more details on all of that, and the walk at RickWalksAmerica.com.
We also got to meet two of Rick's brothers that are following their trail. (no, they aren't walking too) Ron and Don are still on their way west, but considering they're driving the route, we expect them to stop in again in about a week or ten days. Great guys - we really enjoyed them. And, between the four of them, we feel like we've really added to our "traveling family."
Anything else happening with us? Well sure, but it was a baaaaad week last week and I spent 4 out of 5 days not feeling too well, and wishing like crazy that stress would just stop affecting me the way it does. I've learned to deal with it pretty well, but every now and then it just really gets the better of me, and this time my guard was down. Won't let it happen again...
I spent the first week after getting the truck having the tonneau cover put on.... had to first order it - and then it came in wrong when I went to have it installed. That was two wasted days, and the third time they said it was there, it was finally right. We also had a bed and tailgate mat put in. That was another day shot. I got the Hummer back from Jim and finally got it all cleaned up, other than having the upholstery cleaned, by last Friday. I'll do that probably sometime next week after the July 4th Holiday.
Not much else going on right now. Colorado has finally run into their hot time of the summer, so we're hot but not as hot as a lot of you in the south. Have a great 4th everyone, and remember to visit The RickWalksAmerica.com web site.
